Hotel Casa Josefa in Santiago Atitlan

Santiago has always been a popular lakeside destination for a day trip at lake Atitlán. After all, this is the largest of the towns around the lake, is the best place to buy Guatemalan textiles and it’s the home of Maximón, the unsaintliest of saints.

Now you can explore this fascinating town without having to rush to catch the boat back to one of the other lakeside towns. Casa Josefa provides comfortable accommodations in a convenient part of Santiago.

Hotel Near the Park in Santiago

Casa Josefa is a small hotel located a few blocks up from the central park and the stunning 16th-century Iglesia Parroquial Santiago Apostol. There are six spacious rooms, four of which have private bathrooms. You can choose from a smaller room with a double bed to a huge one with three beds, making sharing with your travel buddies easy.

The rooms are arranged around a beautiful, sunny little central garden complete with trees, stone pathways and hanging ferns.

It’s an oasis of peace and tranquility where you can get away from it all and watch the birds coming to visit. However, because of the layout, you will still be able to meet fellow travelers and hang out when you feel like socializing.

Santiago’s main market is close by and you won’t be able to resist the fresh local produce, which is as colorful as the traditional clothing of the people. Luckily Casa Josefa has a kitchen for guests to use, so you can turn those bargain finds from the market into a gourmet meal.

A great advantage of staying at Casa Josefa is its central location, which makes it the perfect base from which to explore Santiago’s many fascinating sights, including the artisans’ market, the textile and weaving museum, the moving Parque de la Paz and the church with its saints all dressed up in handmade finery. You’ll find plenty of eateries within walking distance too.
