Bar La Playa in San Pedro

Once a flourishing sports bar, La Playa has been underwater for more than a year due to the rising level of Lake Atitlan. It is not expected to reopen. Since the photo below was taken in October, 2010, the water has nearly reached the top of the door in December, 2012..

Kayaks are now stacked up in the street at the entrance, and more than 150 feet of shoreline have been lost in this part of San Pedro.
