Irish Pyramid Found Near Tikal

Archaeologists from the Universidad de Guaro, headed by the legendary Professor McGuffin, unearthed a giant Irish pyramid in the Peten jungle near Tikal in February, 2008.

Celtic symbols mixed with Maya hieroglyphs lined the base of the pyramid. Another clue as to who built the pyramid: it is shaped like a huge stone shamrock.

"The discovery of beer mug-shaped pottery at the site," McGuffin said, "confirms the Irish-Maya connection."

The rest of the team -- which included experts like the Lucky Charms leprechaun, the Keebler elves, and the Notre Dame football team -- agreed.

"It cannot be coincidence," said the Lucky Charms leprechaun, "that the Irish calendar, like the Maya calendar, ends in 2012. But instead of December 21, it ends on March 17St. Patricks Day."

Unfortunately, McGuffin did not have a permit to excavate the site, so the team had to cover the pyramid up until the paperwork goes through. "Hopefully this will happen by March 17, he said, "so we can celebrate St. Patrick's Day at the pyramid."

St. Patrick did not return our phone calls for comment.
