La Rosticeria in Panajachel
La Rosticeria specializes in rotisserie chicken. It is okay, but Chero's Bar has the best in Panajachel. The extensive menu includes a huge variety of appetizers, eight-inch pizzas, wraps, hamburgers and fish for lunch or dinner. Unfortunately, only about half are actually available due to shortages of ingredients.
In business for two years, La Rosticeria is run by Don Lariviere from Ontario, Canada. Don insists on fresh produce and meats, scrubs everything with purified water, and takes other steps to ensure the highest quality.
Cleanest Restaurant in Town
All the doors and windows are screened to keep out bugs, and the main dining room was recently enclosed with glass to separate it from the lounge.
On my last trip to Panajachel, I had the chicken torpedo (which in Canadian means submarine sandwich). It was served in a big toasted integral bun with Swiss, Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese and accompanied by a big dill pickle and buffalo chips.
Even though I had skipped breakfast that day, I couldn't finish the whole thing. Not because of the size, but the bun was over-toasted and too hard. Spit-roast ham and turkey torpedoes are also on the menu, which has so many entrees that it's almost like reading a book. A boring book.
Burgers and Pizza
The fourteen kinds of burgers range from the Bacon Cheeseburger to a Fishburger with honey horseradish mayonnaise. For vegetarians, they have the only Broccoli Almond Burger I've yet to see. Fajitas, burritos and various wraps round out the sandwich selections, though many will not be available.
It is difficult to recommend anything here but the chicken, the economico in particular.
Home deliveries are free with an order of Q50 or more (7762-2063). On Calle Arboles, La Rosticeria is open from 8 AM-10 PM. Closed Sundays.
