Lake Atitlan Restaurants: Dining at Blind Lemon's in San Marcos
Named for a legendary blues singer, Blind Lemon’s is just a few minutes from San Pedro and Santa Cruz by water taxi. From San Pedro, you can also reach San Marco by tuk tuk.
Pasta, Pizza and More
It is not called "Little Antigua" for no reason. In addition to a spacious restaurant with indoor and seating garden with an ornate fountain, they feature live music in a room with excellent acoustics. Friday is Blues Day, with live blues music.
In June they got Direct TV for watching sports and movies on the new high definition projection screen in the expansive lounge, which has a fireplace and comfortable seating.
Movies are screened on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Carlos, a former cabinetmaker who started Blind Lemon’s nearly three years ago, says they’ll show whatever you want to see while dining there.
A Colonial setting enriched with lots of tile and stone and wood also gives the place an Antigua feel. But the prices are Atitlan all they way, with Q12 Victorias at the long bar and a full dinner for Q30 and up.
The menu lists several solid selections, such as the Tilapia al Sur, fish that is either blackened Cajun-style or cooked in limon sauce.
I was there for lunch and had a very good lean hamburger with fries that were not too crispy. And a beer or two, of course. Okay, and a couple of those Q12 Cubas, too.
Dinner at Blind Lemon's
Next time I’ll go for dinner and try the Pollo Limon, a chicken breast cooked with lemon sauce. They also have steaks, pasta, burritos, a veggie dish with peanut sauce, and pizzas such as the Lemon Supreme. (Am I beginning to detect a theme?)
Blind Lemon’s has a large Internet lounge where you can burn CDs and DVDs to store photos on your digital camera.
One of the biggest and most polished places to dine and party in San Marcos, Blind Lemon’s is definitely worth a visit. And it is priced right for people who vacation or live at the lake. It’s straight up the trail past Hotel Unicornio and the Holistic Center and across the main street. Open at 11 AM every day.
