Best Bars in San Pedro la Laguna, Lake Atitlan: el barrio, the "Louvre of Liquor"

El Barrio Bar in San Pedro

“El Barrio” still means the “neighborhood bar,” where the locals have been hanging out on 7th Avenue since back when we called it “the trail.” Two walls lined with San Pedro's widest array of spirits, El Barrio is between Clover and La Piscina on the way to the Santiago dock.

The new owners have made a few changes, all for the better, while keeping the classic feel of El Barrio. And it is still the chill place to hang out on 7th Avenue, in the Lower East Side of San Pedro. Lots of special events and theme nights, from Pajama Parties to a Party at the End of the World, keep things entertaining, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

The Pub Quiz happens every Wednesday, and the prizes range from adventure trips to beer and everything in between. The quiz starts at 7 and takes about two hours. Be sure to get there early to get a good seat.

Bar Food at El Barrio

The food is definitely better! Try the Chicken Poppers or wings with 5 different sauces to choose from, the Barrio Burger, or for a bigger appetite the Chicken Club does not disappoint! Also watch for weekly home cooked specials, such as Vietnamese Summer Rolls with Peanut Sauce and Lasagna.

Saturday Brunch

Finally, locals have something to do on Saturday while waiting for the Sunday BBQ at La Piscina. The Saturday Brunch, from 10 AM-2 PM, is an all-you-can-eat bonanza of eggs, waffles, home fries, bagels, bacon, french toast and more. In addition to scramble eggs Mexican-style, you can get custom omelets! Plus all the coffee you can drink.

Live Music and a Bonfire

The large room out back has been refurbished and has a new roof, making it the area's most spacious place for local bands and sometimes famous musicians from the Outside World to play.
Other nights, people like to relax around a roaring bonfire and catch up on local gossip, international events and the latest “flier war.”

No matter where people go in San Pedro, they always return to El Barrio. Drop in tonight and find out why.
